BOOZE AND SHOES

Commitment, A Bavin Ape, and a es-el-aura.

You know what’s not an example of commitment, this blog. Lmfao.

I really just want to punch someone in the face now.

Marquez blocking Pacman’s left hook with his face. I don’t think that’s a suggestible tactic.

It’s been a Pacquiao weekend for me. On Thursday, I won an autographed Manny Pacquiao/Juan Manuel Marquez boxing glove & an event t-shirt for participating in a “Boxing Spelling Bee” courtesy of radio genius Carmichael Dave. For the shirt, Dave was asking people to spell the last names of boxers. I drew Ike Quartey’s last name (which admittedly I Google’d while on hold), and when I when I was put on the air I was ready to go.

“So…you’ve spelled Quartey right. I have to ask a question…are you in front of a computer right now?”
“You know what Dave, I am. But I swear I won’t look at my monitor.”
“I appreciate your honesty. Now, for the autographed glove…and we’ll know you’re lying if you hesitate…spell Pacquiao!”

I had a feeling he was going to ask me to spell Pacquiao since it’s a pretty difficult name (for some) to spell. Without hesitation, all eight winning letters were uttered and I was asked to stop by the station to pick up my bounty. I don’t think I’ve gone over how much of a radiophile I am, but to go to the station that’s continually entertained me from my childhood to the present was pretty exciting for me. The glove is chillin’ right next to me on my desk until I find a suitable place to put it at, and I’m sure that XL shirt will dry my car pretty well after I wash it.

As for thoughts on the fight, I really thought it could go either way. HBO continually zooming into that axe-wound of a cut was fantastic, and it was horrifying to see what looked like lipids oozing out of it. I thought Pacquiao took some of the early rounds, Marquez taking most of the middle rounds, and Pacquiao coming back to win a majority of the late rounds. The 3rd round knockdown really sealed the deal in my opinion, but Marquez was/is seriously perfect for defending Pacquiao’s style. It’s fun to be a fan of a sports figure who actually comes through when it matters most. I really wouldn’t know anything about that being a Kings fan and all, so that’s probably why I’m always awaiting some kind of impending doom for Pacquiao. It’s like when someone who is continually in abusive relationships finally finds someone who’s good to them. In the back of their mind though, they’re just waiting for that day the pillow goes over the face and never lets up. Please don’t kill me in my sleep, Manny.

I preface the following by saying fuck you, Circuit City. I bought a Nikon D40 SLR on Friday, and I saw that Target was selling that particular model for $20 cheaper than Circuit City. Being the retail slut that I am, I know that CC will beat any competitor’s price by 10%, so I printed the Target ad and and sped to CC hoping to get over on retail like I always do. I see that they had the camera in stock, and when I was getting rung up the CC price showed up like I had expected. 10 seconds later however after furiously typing something, Mike tells me that CC is actually selling the camera at the same price Target is, so they wouldn’t go through with beating the price by 10%. That little motherfucker, but what could I do? That was the lowest price I could find in my general vicinity, so I decided to take that loss. Prior to getting rung up however, I had asked Mike for advice for which storage media I should get. Confidently he suggested Compact Flash media. Ignorantly, I take said advice. When I get home to set up my camera, I see that the memory slot asks for SD media and I drive back to CC calmly but a bit irritated. I explain my situation to Customer Service, they agree to correct the mistake on behalf of Mr. Fucktard Mike, and I go back to the memory section to find the correct media I need. When I go back, the lady tells me “Mike said he picked you the right one….” and this just set me off.

Dear Mike,

Don’t call me a fucking liar. I have a fork right now if you’d like to stab yourself in the jugular.

Much Obliged,
Al

Everything got straightened out at the end, but I don’t think I’ll be going to Circuit Shitty anymore. Only for when they clearance out games, which is pretty frequently just because EVERYBODY GOES TO FUCKING BEST BUY.

I’m really happy with the Nikon I got however. It does what I need it to do and I can’t wait to take landscape & cityscape photos with it. There’s a lot I need to learn and incorporate into my photography like adjusting the exposure time and fooling around with the other options, but I couldn’t be any happier with what I got. I debated for about a month between the D40 and the Canon XTi Rebel, but the D40 just felt better in my hands. I foresee much Flickr whoring in the future.

I was gonna ask for suggestions for these pair of Bapes but I think I’m just gonna hold off.
